You know how it is, some of these people have lives, unlike those of us
that live to send and receive email. :) Did you ever go to Seabrook
Texas to sample the seafood straight off of the fishing boats there?
Just goto I-45 South to the Nassau Road Exit (Webster), drive past the
Johnson Space Flight Center and go about two more miles until you hit
the water. Can't miss it or you'd drown. <smirks>
Johnson Space Center has a nice tour and exhibits. I have a picture
somewhere of me wearing the space helmet with my cowboy hat on top of
it. Cute. When I lived there, many years ago, I could get a bushel
basket of fresh heads-on shrimp for less than $20. No one went hungry,
including the dogs and cats. Everyone had their fill of boiled shrimp
that day!
The oysters from the Gulf are not quite as good as Maryland or North
Carolina from the Atlantic, as the Gulf water is warmer. But, they are
still good. Crabs good too. If you want to have some real fun, get a
bamboo pole, tie a string to it with a chicken neck tied to the end for
bait. Get another pole with a net on it and an insulated bucket or ice
chest. Drop the chicken neck into water and wait until you feel a tug.
There will be a crab, who has no inbred notion of letting go even to
save his own hide, and catch him in the net. Must be a span across the
top of the shell to be a keeper. I don't believe you even have to have a
license to dip for crabs. A fun way to spend a nice day, catching a good
supper. Check with the Game Warden office before to make sure there
isn't some off-season rules.
There! Now you have had plenty to read! I hope you make this trip and
tell me and us about it! Ric
