I presume (???) he's switched to an alternate console, or is not
running X at all ???
In any case, I get this sort of behavior under RHEL4/KDE all too
frequently. Typically, at any time, I have half a dozen or more
Konsole sessions opened, most of them ssh'd to one of our servers.
Also I KVM switch to 2-3 other systems at my desk. From time to time
when I switch to one of the Konsole sessions, I find it stuck. Ths
comes in 2 flavors: (1) totally non-responsive (2) stuck in scroll
mode - arrow keys cause the scroll bars to operate, but no way to
enter new commands. No matter how many Konsole windows I have open,
only one of them is ever stuck in this fashion.
The fix is to say Ah ---- and X out of the Konsole screen and start again.
