Well there is method to my madness, in coming back to this den of
iniquity and aging geeks. Not that I have
grown younger mind you, though I am still a lazy 25 :)
As Bruce said I am dessicated, as we have not had any decent rain for a
few years and Brisbane is down to
under 30% supply big water restrictions, 4min showers, no gardens, they
have died. Some Towns are now
actually waterless.
Anyway enough. I have a problem with a database an old SQL that runs on
NT4. I do some work for a
small charitable organisation that has an "aged medical monitoring
system" based on NT4 which we are looking at
new software by Patriot that runs on a later version windows. I have
been unable find a suitable one thats linux
orientated. They had a guy that supposedly had "many" degrees and
lectured etc looking into what was available
and suitabilty. However non of these so called gurus asked the question:
Will the database we have run on the
new software. GRIN:: So I looked and no it does not, but bit might if we
could reconfigure the database.
So getting in is my main problem, there seem to be some reports in the
folder with the database that might be
CSV files but have some lines etc that are unreadable to me, however
they are not the whole tomale. I need some advice
from you as to what track to follow, the database is in an old version
of Tunstall Vision. Essentially the clients
are spread out over Queensland plus other states, they have a special
phone with pendants, which they press in an
emergency just like the emergency services it's then voice recorded and
an operator takes over. The difference
to emergency services is that we have a database with location and
relevant information that is displayed automatically.
Quite frankly we could go to the new version of Tunstall which is
backward compatible, however the new one is
very, very expensive and not as easily upgradeable to some programs we
want. Lastly the company is like a leech
and will not let go and is a constant drain on finances: they have also
gone into competition with other services
like ours, which is a bit wicked.
I noticed that some other prodigal sons are back too. Ric Moore and
wayward, although Tony Alfrey is still living
in the past by his mail. Is Kurt still pickled :)
