I think the Exchange administration documentation from M$ says ``when the
data is corrupted'', not ``if'' as well.
The e-mail side of this is easy. We use postfix, courier-imap, and server
side filtering and mail routing that I've written in some fairly large e-
mail installations. We do recommend users using IMAP, and leaving the mail
on the server as it allows them more flexibility, access from a variety of
desktops, webmail, and managed backups.
The standard Maildir stores are very robust, easily accessible using
standard *nix tools, and work nicely in clustered environments at there are
no locking issues.
