Oops, sorry.   Since PBS is running another interminable nagathon, I 
stocked up on some good reading from Daedalus.  One of the books is "The 
Courtier  and The Heretic " by Matthew Stuart.   "The Courtier (Leibniz) 
and The Heretic (Spinoza)" is a great read, by a philosophy professor 
who thinks philosophy, like Linux, should be an "open source" rather 
than a proprietary intellectual discipline whose meaning is kept 
concealed from the public.
