I picked up your reference in your earlier post, but, Gosh, these
bring back memories- Garden Bakery, the Golden Computer Arcade, the
old barracks at Sham Shui Po, This was a British Army barracks, then a
Japanese prison camp during the Second World War, then again a British
Army camp housing a Gurkha Transport Squadron (with their wives and
children), and -finally- a Vietnamese boat refugees camp). IIRC it's
now one of the world's most densely populated high-rise conurbations.

When it was a refugee camp I used to have to go and monitor conditions
there in a previous incarnation. It was not the best job I have had,
but at least it had a real effect. I do remember being irritated that
what was considered good enough for Gurkha and British troops and
their families was not considered good enough for refugees (by another
UN freeby commission).

But I still remember, fondly (as my children do) Garden packs of
wafers, and God help me, taking them to breakfast at the MacDonald's a
few doors up from the Arcade....

The amazing software/handbook packages (HK$100, one hour. Come back then!).

Some good, some bad memories...

But we loved our years there.
