Back in 1979 I was treated for diabetic retinopathy with laser burns in
my eyes.  It's still the only treatment.  I've got over 8,000 burns on
each retina.  I've lost two full stops of light sensitivity, but can
still see.  It didn't affect the 20/20 part of the vision, only the
light gathering and night vision and color blindness.  Oh, the other
thing, it caused catarcts about 20 years later.
