Tony, many things have changed since the carefree days of Caldera, I'm
sad to relate. For now the LVM big deal is the journaling you now have
and doing the old fsck business every 20 boots or so is for all
practical purposes gone. While I don't begin to pretend to be expert on
it, it seems to work, unless you stir it with a stick. Like an ant pile,
it's best left alone and everybody's yard now has one. There is no where
to move to, to avoid ants or ext3, anymore. 

I remember when there was just /etc/passwd, then they added /etc/shadow
and all the rest that changed. Best just go with it. It's like a bowl of
oat-bran ...you wake up in the morning and it's there.
