All you need is the warning: LAPTOP DUMMIES BEWARE. Sound works out of
the box with Ubuntu on my laptop IF you know to click the hardware
buttons near the top of the laptop screen to UNMUTE the sound <grin>.
Much embarrassment.

Also wireless (Atheros chip) works almost out of the box - you have to
install the restricted modules package since the support for Atheros
is not GPL.
