text mode in virtual console with Suse 10.2

One Suse 10.2 box has a 12" LCD monitor. In X mode with resolution
1024x768 it works just fine but when I switch to any virtual console,
the monitor shows "Mode not supported".

How do I set it to the "stanrdard 80x25" text mode for the virtual
console ?

Note : this monitor works just fine in text mode when I boot the system.
