Well, that said, then I have to vote for my favorite, Debian! ;-)
But, anyway, a little Googling turned up that this might be as simple as
setting a root password. Keith, have you tried Bill's suggestion of `sudo
passwd root`? Another suggestion from the the Googling was reboot your PC
into single-user and then run `passwd root`. One respondant complained that
the root password that was entered during the install was "changed" and not
effective later. Maybe there's some kind of bug during the Mandriva install.
