Don't feel stupid on my account! I just threw that out there without much
thought. As Leon just mentioned, "Don't forget /var/run/cups/printcap" -- I
didn't even know about that.
But, anyway, a good place to start would be to install CUPS with your package
manager and start looking for things you can copy over. IIANM all of the
configuration as well as the ppd files are ascii files found
in /etc/cups. /var/run/cups/printcap, apparently, is configured when you add
printers.
If you have a lot of printers to configure, you might start by installing one
manually, and then see what files are updated as a way of discovering what
would need to be copied over.
Alternatively, you could automate the lpadmin command with a shell script.
