Just to emphasize Collins' viewpoint:

1. CUPS, when it's working, is great.
2. I haven't used LPRNG in years.
3. Lonni has been extremely lucky if he never encountered problems.
4. Over the past few years (Gentoo, miscellaneous, and now
Debian/Ubuntu), at least once per year, CUPS has been broken over
several dot releases. Eventually they get it right, and all is
goodness again.
5. IMO, CUPS has the poorest internal testing of any open source
product I've encountered. They release unimaginable schlock. Even
plain vanilla HP Laserjets stop working.
6. The latest version on Ubuntu Gutsy is surprisingly error free. For
the very first time, I was able to add my Epson CX4200 via gui with no
problems. Maybe they've turned over a new leaf.
