I agree, it is a profile/configuration issue. I can log into root and new user using any desktop avail. My rick user no, only thing I can get is twm. If I can login as anyone but rick user, then normal login scripts are ok, I am assumming which can jump up and bite you in the .... I have mv .gnome & .gnome2 to bakup directories, no help there. I have not found 
where the .dmrc file is called yet.
