Well, that was my impression when I first bought it, part of the initial
announce was that it was based on RH. Then I bought it. The only
difference was /opt being used by Caldera for 3rd party industrial sized
apps like Wabi and Netscape Server.
We raised hell with Donnie Barnes on the list when the new version of
Caldera came out and then they (RH) released a brand new RPM version a
week or so later. We had a helluva time opening packages that were rpm'd
by the new version. So, we blamed him for releasing just after Caldera's
big promotion release date. Donnie's a good guy though. He withstood our
barrage quite well.
For all the dough he made in the initial RH stock, he'd still amble
around RH like a carefree balloon on a string, wearing jeans, sneakers
and a baseball cap. Last year they had a piece in the Raleigh newspaper
about people devoting a room to TV viewing with special seating, sound
arrangements, all of that plus how much it would cost in several price
ranges. They mentioned Donnie's setup in his home as the price high at
80 thousand bucks, just for his video room. I guess at that level of
finances you don't shop Best-Buy. I sure as heck wouldn't know!
