Well, the "pox" struck. I installed FreeBSD 6.2 last night on a lab rat
with a prior Solaris 10 install.
I can't boot it because of a disc geometry error. The Solaris is still
OK though. I then installed the BSD bootloader; I can still boot
Solaris, but only get pathetic bleeps when I select FreeBSD.
Apparently, my system can't handle two "slices." fdisk reports a 12 MB
unused area before both Solaris and FreeBSD. NB: I overwrote a FC6
install (and swap) because I needed the primary partition. FC6 was
running fine, and Solaris' GRUB chainloaded it.
I'll give it another go after I wipe Solaris. Looks like we are in for
what is euphemistically called "winter weather" around here * so I am
going to have a lot of time to kill between splitting firewood.
* The weather forecast expects no nasty stuff, but the activity around
my bird feeder has been intense this morning. The local "college of
cardinals" knows more about the weather than most people.
