FWIW my son has just bought a Pavilion (sounds like the same model
from the spec), and in the docs it said that the recovery partition
can be removed once the recovery DVDs have been burned (AND checked!).
We burned the discs, and I used a GParted cd to check the hard drive
and partitions.
I then removed the recovery partition and re-partitioned to give a
dual boot capability with OpenSUSE 10.2.
My son has not yet had to use the recovery DVDs, but a quick and
incomplete check showed them to boot OK.
