linux on hw router?

Knowing that the modem has router capabilities (blackbox type), enabled or
disabled, is it possible to ssh from the outside world into the  WRT54GL router
behind the modem (assuming the latter router has sshd on)? And could you tell
what linux stuff did you installed in the WRT54GL?
