Yes, that's why I would expect to have to pull over the SCSI controller 
along with the drives.

Thanks very much.  It seems that the best thing to do is to start fresh 
with a new box and a new up-to-date distro and then try to move as many 
apps and files over as possible.  I like the idea of having lots of hard 
drives (which makes a tower more attractive than a laptop) and there is 
probably no longer a really good reason for using the SCSI drives.  I 
was trying to save some money by "just" upgrading the MB.
