Using GParted to shrink an NTFS Volume so I can Install Linux

I'm renovating my bathroom and have absolutely no money to spend on
upgrading my computer... Fortunately just before I got married I bought
a 3GHz Intel with 1GB... & 200GB HDD... But I installed w2k3 server as a
test bed (I was playing with postpath and needed an Active Directory
Domain) and I haven't been able to remove it as yet...
Which raises a question.... I want to shrink the NTFS Volume to allow
room for (choral music) LINUX.
I have deleted the files I don't need and defragged the NTFS volume and
I understand GParted can shrink the volume but a little blue bar of
files that didn't move as seen from the Win2k3 Defrag utility is still
in the second half of the volume. If I go to shrink the partition is
GParted intelligent enough to
be able to shift those files or does it mean that it will balk at those
files and only shrink to where it has clear free space from the last
file to the end of the volume
Any experiences relating to partition resizing would be appreciated.
