I used apsfilter for several years with Libranet 1.9.x Debian; it was 
solid and reliable.

WordPerfect 8/8.1 can print independently; its xwpdest utility sets up 
WP8 to print with its own print system.  Output is much faster than with 
CUPS and a raw printer setup.
