firefox-pig (?)B

According to top, firefox-bin is eating 75% cpu and 12% mem. I have just
one firefox window open, on Gmail, which is about the only thing I use
Firefox for. (I would have got rid of it altogether if Gmail would play
ball with Konqueror.)

Any idea what can cause this? I checked that there are no other firefox
processes doing undisclosed things somewhere...
OTOH, maybe I don't really understand the output of top. The 75% CPU
means that (1) the cpu is working at 75% of its full capabilities, or just
that (2) 75% of its load is caused by firefox, even if that load is a
small fraction of its full capabilities?

Anyway, I've been noticing a small but unusual general slowness, which
is why I checked top.

Version is 2.0.0.8. The processor is P4, 512M RAM.
