I had the exact same desert experience when I reached Phoenix, and my
boss drove us to Tempe. Flat land as far as the eye can see! Truly
amazing ! I wasn't used to the distances as well -- I wanted to go for
my usual morning jog, looked at the map and thought I could go two
junctions, then back to the motel. I ended up turning back after just
one junction because it was so far, and the temperature was a lot colder
than I was used to in Singapore. This was Arizona in November, IIRC.
