[root at RSivernell downloads]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi4 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
  Vendor: ATA Model: ST3300631AS Rev: 3.04
  Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05

In reading dmesg, I found this, scsi id7 is the controller:
scsi7: Someone reset channel A
scsi7 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 7.0
        <Adaptec aic7850 SCSI adapter>
        aic7850: Single Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 3/253 SCBs

(scsi7:A:0:0): Unexpected busfree while idle
SEQADDR == 0x167
...

...
(scsi7:A:5:0): Unexpected busfree while idle

(scsi7:A:6:0): Unexpected busfree while idle
SEQADDR == 0x167
(scsi7:A:6:0): Unexpected busfree while idle
SEQADDR == 0x167

could the system actually be turning off the Adaptec aic7850 SCSI adapter?

The Asuse K8N-E delux has 2 sata connectors IDE master 3 & 4 with
4 standard IDE, IDE0 master/slave & IDE2 master/slave. It also has
4 more sata conections for a sata raid, I have this disabled.
