Can't help much. I use the prepackaged stuff available via the Ubuntu
Automatix procedure, and I don't have a clue how to go about it
manually on Debian or Ubuntu. I'm sure what I've got (nvidia-glx
1.0.8762+2.6.15.11-3 and nvidia-kernel-common 20051028+1) will turn
out to be pretty ancient.
