I recently had the opportunity to play with a friend's Nokia 770 tablet.

Its about the size of a shirt pocket, runs Linux, has WiFi built-in, etc.
You can get evince for it. Of course, its more than just a ebook reader
but the size and weight would be perfect for what you want. There's an SDK
for it and a boatload of applications ported (or in the process of being
ported).
