Yes. I use lots of USB2 drives and have great success with them. But
generally they are good for bulk storage where performance is not an
issue or where mobility is the thing. But USB2 is rather uninspiring in
its performance.
I hear Firewire is a bit better but I suspect eSATA is where the future
lies.
