There is a book from years back named "The Dysfunctional Organization",
that posits that an organization can be just as dysfunctional as any
single human. The book notes that an organization has a much longer life
and that just removing portions of it, like departments, their staff or
heads will not kill it's behaviors.
The book closes with the solution to bulldoze the place to the ground
after scattering it's assets far and wide to unrelated buyers. That is
the only way to cure such a thing. So, Novell begat Caldera which begat
Canopy Group which begat Suse, and all the rest of the attends of this
bunch. Interestingly enough, the behavior has remained consistent.
Solution?? Like the Hitch-hiker's Guide, that big yellow diesel thing
outside the bathroom window, blade glinting in the early morning sun and
catching them ALL by surprise, would do it. <evil grin> Ric
