There may be more to it than that.  A friend, who has been around the Linux
world at very high levels for years, suggested that Microsoft may well be
doing this in response to the European Union (EU) anti-trust actions and
major fines levied against them for no complying with EU orders.

I don't think the folks at Novell are stupid, and that their knowledge of
the risks of dealing with the Redmond Raptor died with Ray Noorda.

On the other hand, Microsoft may actually be looking at things like the
recent EU actions, and the growth of Linux outside of the United States,
and coming to the conclusion that they're going to have to live with Linux
and that it's not going away.

Another factor may be that Novell is the actual owner of UNIX, contrary to
SCO's claims.
