As an aside, I many not need this for the stated project after all.
We're upgrading to a more modern version of LDAP, and one of my
associates has discovered a way to incorporate enforced update of an
expired password into the gdm/kdm login process. Also with the newer
LDAP, we can write a simple web application to allow the same action
for our Windows unfortunates who have to access LDAP managed
applications via putty.
