Just what widgets are you talking about?

In the upper right corner of the view, there is the zoom bar and also a
diirectional pointer.....

The zoom bar seems to be on a timer that if the mouse is away from it, it
disappears and is replaced by the directional right... (N is up)

I just installed an Nvidia 6200 that replaced the Matrox (nice install
Lonnie) Whereas before, the action of those two widgets appeared to
be 'sporadic', now the action is as I explained above and they work rather
nicely..... I think maybe on the slower card, they don't get redrawn if the
proggie is busy doing other graphics work which would explain why some Nvidia
cards would appear to work, and others not..

Just my $,02
