Sure - for example, Chenbro make rack-mount chassis that can accommodate
up 16 drives. Look at this monster:

A friend is building a big server with 12 Segate SATA drives, hot-swap
chassis together with a 12-channel SATA RAID card. One neat thing: instead
of 12 drive cables you can get a Chenbro backplane which takes multilane
cables:

The 16-drive Chenbro chassis mentioned above, also has hot-swap fans
and four hot-swap power supplies ;-)
Our supplier gets us SATA drives really cheap (Segate SATA 250Mb is < $100
each)
