Strange Networking Issue

I have the following setup

            [internet]
                 |
[Alcatel SPEEDTOUCH HOME]
                 |
                 |
     [DLink 8 Port Switch]
           |             |
           |             |
      Ubuntu    WinXPSP2
       pppoe
  iptables/NAT

My Windows XP box has the Ubuntu box set as the Default Gateway and DNS
Resolver. I can successfully access some sites using Internet Explorer on
the XP box but www.microsoft.com just times out. DNS resolution works fine
on the XP pro box.

Is this just a blessing or do I have something weird going on with the
Ubuntu box. This exact config worked fine with Redhat FC5

I am using fwbuilder for the firewall script and pppoeconf to build the
DSL connection.

I think it's a distro specific setting that ubuntu has but I'm at a loss
as to where to start looking...
