Ubuntu 6.06 broke my cupsd

It seems that PAM authentication is not working with my cupsd. How could
I solve this mysterious problem?

/var/log/cups/error_log:

E [05/Jun/2006:10:44:39 +0800] cupsdAuthorize: pam_authenticate()
returned 7 (Authentication failure)!
E [05/Jun/2006:10:44:39 +0800] Resume-Printer: Unauthorized
E [05/Jun/2006:10:46:46 +0800] Resume-Printer: Unauthorized

/var/log/auth.log:
Jun  5 10:44:36 server cupsd: (pam_unix) authentication failure;
logname= uid=102 euid=102 tty= ruser= rhost=  user=toylet

I am quite sure that the /etc/pam.d/cupsys is good:

root at server:/etc/pam.d # cat cupsys
# shoud be the same as imap or proftpd
@include common-auth
@include common-account
@include common-session

I am also sure that I entered the right password for root.
