back for modem advice

I've come to the conclusion my ActionTec Call Waiting modem died, at least 
the Linux compatibility part.  I've installed Fedora Core 5 and Novel's SuSE 
10.0, the fedora doesn't even find it and SuSE can't configure it.  Looking 
for "call waiting" external modems that don't cost an arm&a-leg.  Found this 
one at New Egg for 40 bucks. Any one have any experience with this brand? 
M56ESupraMax 56K V92 EXTERNAL.  Would a USB interface be any better?  Don't 
know if they have one that cheap.  The list price from Diamond is $4.00 more 
for the USB hook-up.  Would it be worth it?
