Getting that new hardware itch... The purchase!

So I did it. I picked up a new system about 2 weeks ago. I used
a local outfit (Terian) who mostly build servers. They got a good
discount on parts, so it might actually have cost me more if I had built it.

I got :

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, 2 Ghz
Asus A8N-SLI

2 160 Gb SATA disks

2 Gb memory

Nvidia GeForce 6200TC

Acoustic Authority subwoofer & speakers

500W Antec Smartpower

DVD/CD RW

It really rocks. And it is soooo quiet. Amazing. It came with Redhat
Enterpise preloaded. First thing I did was repartition the disk and break
the redhat installation. But I fixed it and began to load Gentoo. Still
migrating all my stuff. I have a lot of stuff. It hardly breaks a sweat,
even when compiling KDE. The cpu runs at about 83 deg F when it idles, and
pops up to 98 deg F during a serious compile.

Only one problem. I can't run SMP kernels. Both redhat and gentoo SMP
kernels have problems. In X, keypresses start repeating liiikkkkeeeee
ttthhhiiiiiisssssss. And the mouse goes crazy. So I've turned in bug
reports. It's still a really fast machine, even without smp. And I'm proud
to say I built this kernel myself. Took about 4 tries, but I got it.
