Ancient history. And it wasn't non-free. The devil was always in the
details, of course, but the basic deal was reasonable: Qt was free if
you used it in a free (as in beer and speech) project; if you used it 
in a commercial project, they wanted a cut of the profits.

But, as you said, that's history. Qt can now be had in a GPLed flavor.

Indeed. That's half the reason I can sit back and bash KDE and GNOME.
