Squirrel Mail or Horde ?

The newest versions of the horde family are far easier to set up and
configure than previous versions, although I would classify it as tedious
rather than painful.

My solution to this with the OpenPKG based systems we build is to develop
some python-based administrative tools and templates that allow one to
enter basic system-wide information, then uses this to set up the necessary
mysql tables and configuration files for all the installed horde components
(I'm in the process of learning enough openldap to use it for address books
which can be accessible from other mail clients).

I think you're correct on this.  While most of my programming has been in
perl since perl-3.something, I haven't had any problems reading and
understanding enough php to work a bit in the guts of horde.

My preference would be horde and IMP, but my experience with squirrelmail
has been limited to installing it and testing it enough to decide I didn't
like it.
