My first conclusion. So, I packed up the stuff and sent it to D-Link.
They returned it and said it is in proper working order. I have ensured
I am on a different channel than the other APs I sense. Seems not to
matter.
I have been thinking that a neighbor's equipment could be at fault. The
problem is intermittent. I have not found a pattern in house. And I
don't have GWB's connections for determining what is going on behind
other walls. I also have a wireless TV transmitter, but that seems to be
unrelated. Maybe the cordless phone? I don't want to put back wires or
up the power. So, I will wait and see. For what, you might ask? Mutinous
rumblings from the wife and offspring.
