It's tough to compare film with digital but one way to do it is to compare the 
'maximum reasonable size' print you can make from a 35mm negative (for 
instance) with the resolution needed from the same picture in digital.

When you blow up a 35mm too much, it will get 'grainy' and doing the same for 
a digital picture will make the individual pixels show up.

I've just been reading about all this... will try to come up with some 
comparisons.
