If you are going to include cutting edge (FCn, etc.), I would
recomment the Kubuntu Dapper (development) branch. Except for a few
problems with cups, it's pretty solid now at flight 4+. I found Ubuntu
to be a relatively painless intro into debian land.
One interesting note. I don't run FC4 enough to have an opinion why,
but FC4 seems to have a little better eye candy than Kubuntu, even
though both are at the KDE 3.5.n level. The screen images appear just
a little bit sharper.
Glad you had a great time in Napa, and sorry about the theft.
One nitpick.

That's really a non-sequitor. H---- P--- drinking and bud go in the
same sentence together, but not beer drinking <grin>
