time setting in debian

Sounds as if you were missing the files in /usr/share/zoneinfo/, which seems
strange, as they are provided by the libc6 package on my system, but ubuntu
might have things parceled up differently.
I'm not real clear on apt-get dist-upgrade myself. There's a little bit of
information here:
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/reference/ch-woody.en.html
and some more in 'man apt-get'. A tool that's help me out from time to time is
apt-show-versions, which will show you which packages belong to what
distribution.
