Hmm, not a lot more complicated, just different, esp. if you haven't
used any form of debian.
I'm not a real KDE fan, but I've been using 3.5.1 on Kubuntu (both
Breezy and Dapper) for some time now, and it just works. I'm sure it's
not like RedHat's KDE, since they've done their best to munge it into
a desktop neutral (ha! neutered) function, but I don't know what you
might be missing from other distros.
