Don't remember, and we didn't investigate, just moved on, since this
was a unique system for a specific user. We were using RHEL3 (U5 or
U6). I'm sure there's more than one way to skin this cat, but it
didn't work at all as built in at the time. And, of course, RHEL3
still uses a 2.4 kernel, so this may have long since been repaired in
2.6 and later udev.
