I've been partial to Viewsonic flatscreens and currently have the VP201B 19 
inch running at 1600x1200.   Looking at it, it is plenty bright.... but you 
should judge for yourself in the store.

I don't see anything wrong with the specs of the above monitor you mentioned 
other than it's made by Compaq.  In my 21 years of PC use I have never bought 
a piece of Compaq equipment and never will.

One thing I would do would be to visit the NewEgg or the Amazon sites and read 
the reviews.  Or any site that has reviews of monitors.  You can find some 
revealing stuff there sometimes.   And then go buy something at Best Buy 
after researching it on the web.
