I absolutely agree but  for this particular project, the situation is that
the device is selected before the design. The customer has already selected
the devices because the carrier said that they ( customer ) would get the
devices "free". And this device 's development platform is Java-only and
even worse this device does not support JSR-172.

My plan is to use Axis on the server side, and ksoap on the device.

I wish they selected the Nokia phones, which support both C++ and Java.
