Has anyone played with Croquet?? Squeak?? It's sister application,
"SecondLife" is huge and there is a free beta linux client. This is
totally nifty stuff!!! I'm trying to use it for my project, and keep
running into small weird stuff. I'm running the livna nVidia driver and
Croquet complains about not finding openGL.
In the example tutorials there are server and client demos. I ran the
server from one terminal and a client in another, but they don't seem to
find each other using localhost. Little crap like that is getting in my
way here. So, if anyone has any experience in Virtual Worlds or has an
interest, I could use your brains and collaboration. I'm hoping to have
a demo ready by the end of January, to present to NCDOC, and it's the
little crap that is throwing me for a loop. This thing will stream
videos within the virtual world, sound streams, just about anythng you
toss at it while your little avatar runs or flies across the landscape.
I was also told on their maillist that openAL wouldn't handle two
instances of itself on the same machine.

Check it out, this beats the pants off of playing "Hunt The Wumpus".
We've come a long ways baby! Plus, it'll run on Macs and Winders. :) Ric
