(OT) Cable vs DSL issues

I work for a utility (Southern California Edison) but live in another
utilities (San Diego Gas & Electric) service area. I back up my ups with a
Honda EU3000is gas generator. It is an excellent generator for this purpose,
however it is pricey. It is very quiet and dependable. When the power goes
out the neighbors think I'm magic as they can't hear the generator running.

It's certainly a local problem where the cables are above ground as
they are here in the Puget Sound area. On the other hand, the telcos
probably have a better record of keeping their systems up and running
as we have *NEVER* had a phone outage in the 24 years we've been here
(and power outages are a regular occurrence such that I rarely have to
run my generator just to charge its starting battery :-).

You don't need expensive diesel power generators. I have a Honda
EU3000is gas generator that kept our computers up for the week we were
without power. It's extremely quiet, consumes about 7 gallons of gas
a day keeping all our systems running, and has an MSRP of $1,995.00.
