Calling all Python experts

I have no dog in the fight, but Perl or Python, if there is no "USER"
in the environment, you're SOL. Perl and Python both have their
syntactical quirks (some of them totally inscrutable) as well as
advantages. On the whole, I prefer PHP since I can always decode what
I wrote 6 months later.
