ubuntu feisty experiences

Just to summarize. It's not a *buntu-ism; the marvelous mandarins at
Debian came up with this crap about the time Ubuntu Edgy was cranking
up. As to why anyone in their right mind would dream up a version of
vim with only theancient, deficient vi syntax is beyond me. I
complained bitterly to Ubuntu when this happened, and that's when I
learned about vim-tiny.

The unfortunate thing is, they're sticking with this crap even though
the normal version of vim is available. I'm sure part of the problem
is that they don't really care about command-line tools anyway. Every
one is supposed to use gummy gnome and love it.
